St John’s Primary Local Governing Committee

St John’s Primary is a SWAN Trust School governed by the Board of Trustees of the Trust. The Board delegates some of the day to day governance of the school to it’s own Local Governing Committee. The Scheme of Delegation document describes this delegation in detail.

The governing committee of St John’s School is comprised of a group of volunteers, both from within the school community (staff and parents) and the wider community, with an interest in the education of the children of St John’s. We work together as a team, to ensure the best possible education for all the children, enabling them to realise and achieve their potential at each stage of their journey through our school.

We take every opportunity to expand our skills by attending training courses provided and visiting the school. St John’s has a very active governing committee with full governing committee meetings taking place twice a term.

The Governing Committee can be contacted in writing through the school office. Please mark any letters for the attention of the Chair of Governors.

The governing committee’s work focuses on three core strategic functions:

• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
• Holding the CEO and Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
• Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The Governing Committee will have six meetings in the year 2026/27. The dates are as follows:

• Tuesday 23rd March 2027 6pm
• Tuesday 4th May 2027 6pm
• Thursday 1st July 2027 6pm
