Year 4

Children in Year 4 will consolidate the skills learnt in Year 3 and to prepare them for independent learning in Year 5. Children will continue to learn the national curriculum subjects of Reading, Writing, Maths, Art, DT, Computing, History, Geography, RE, PE, PSHE and Science and have specialist teachers for P.E. and Computing.

Year 4 children have the wonderful experience of learning the violin with a specialist teacher from Surrey Arts. If children enjoy this, they can continue private lessons with the teacher into Year 5 and 6.

At the end of Year 4 there is a statutory times table check. It is good practice for all children to be rehearsing their times tables throughout the year and the website Times Table Rockstars (which the children have log-ons for) is a fun, easy way of practicing these.

High Ashurst Residential

In the Spring term of Year 4, we run a residential trip to ‘High Ashurst’ in Dorking for the our Year 4 Junior children. This trip builds the life skills of resilience, independence and team work as children stay for 2 nights and carry out a range of outdoor and adventurous activities.

Delight in Watts

Year 4 have the wonderful opportunity to participate in Delight in Watts. It stimulates children’s imaginations, exposing them to a bespoke gallery experience and challenging them to take creative risks to strengthen life skills and increase visual-arts confidence.

Over 6 weeks, children learn about and create art in an engaging and comprehensive way, gaining new knowledge and enriching topic learning.

Beginning with a ‘wow’ day at Watts Gallery, children explore the gallery and take part in an onsite workshop. Back at school, children participate in three full-day art workshops with professional artists from Paintbox creating artwork that is professionally exhibited at Watts Gallery and celebrated in a private view with family and friends.
